It has wonderful resins and aromatics in it. I had a great bouquet of the dried plants in the tool shed last winter, smelled so much better than the usually musty winter smell.

Little boys (and sometimes little girls, mostly aided by our mothers who knew it would turn us off ever smoking anything) smoked it. I don't think rabbits had anything to do with it, but folklore would have them nesting in it as 'medicine.'

Rabbit Tobacco, one of my favorite field weeds. Easily identified by the aromatic resinous smell of the leaves. Cudweed looks similar when small but does not have the herbal fragrance.

Well shoot. What I thought might be rabbit tobacco growing in the back area seems to be cudweed. I can't smell a thing, but that could be the cold. I'll check again in a week.

This one is gray and stays about 6" tall.

Rabbit tobacco grows about 12-18" tall, taller in rich soil. I think you have cudweed, Tom. When it blooms and starts to dry, you can smell it when standing nearby. When it is green, you have to pinch it and sniff a leaf.

Nice pictures. The plants really look healthy; so there must be something to it liking rich soil.

When I was a little girl, I called it Brown Sugar plant, because it reminded me of the smell of same. I love it, especially on hot summer days.
