Asters & peonies spacing

I planted three aster laevis "Bluebird" last year among a hedge of peonies and they look spectacular right now. I'd like to divide/add more of the asters but I'm worried about planting too close to the peonies. If I'm going to do it I don't have much choice but to plant closely because the bed can not be expanded. Either that, or remove some of the peonies. Any thoughts?

Peonies don't do well with crowding. They like full sun and full air all around them to do their best.
