Tropicalismo! The Book Is Here!

Post Lady brought the book I ordered, Tropicalismo, by Pam Baggett.

It's smaller than I expected, but crammed with tropical plants in alphabetical order, most of which I recognized, some new to me. She gives how-tos and combos for each. Some of the plants are hardy only in zones 9 & 10, some 7-10. Many are available as annuals everywhere in early summer.

She gives ideas for great combos using Persian Shield, one of my favs in the tropical garden.

I already have Richard Iversen's book on Victorian style gardening with tropical plants.

Persian Shield is one of my faves too, but I grow it as a house plant. I have a rather strong disinclination to growing annuals, (at least the majority of them) and I haven't ventured in to the use of tropicals in the garden. Uh-oh...I may have to look in to these books you speak of!

Persian Shield one of the plants I've been looking for, it always seems to elude me, when I hear some garden center has it, by the time I get there they've just sold the last plant. I think it is one of the prettiest foliage plants I've ever seen. I'll keep looking maybe I'll find it in the houseplant section of one of the garden centers I go to.
Nell, both books sound really interesting I'll have to see if our library has them.

You should be able to find a Persian Shield in a houseplant section or at a greenhouse. I'd keep your eyes peeled over the winter months too if you're willing to have one as a house plant for a while! If I had one at the moment I'd be happy to share a cutting, but I don't.
