I have had both kinds. The vigna did not get enough light and bloomed very few blooms. It was at the corner of the front porch at the other house and the neighbor's trees grew a lot that year.

The Phaseolus grew like kudzu and over whelmed a nearby buddleia and both died the next winter. Which was not a typical winter for us.

Hard to describe a scent. Like Goldielocks finding her bed... Not too stong, but not too wimpy. I remember it as pleasant and not overwhelming

I had to be near it to smell it. Maybe similar to freesia.
I am very sensitive to scents. I recently gave away a tall shrub because the scent nauesated me.

Thanks Kathy, I've read the scent is very pleasant. I love freesias, wish I had better luck growing them. Fingers crossed I've got the scented one, the flower buds have gotten a little bigger but still have a long way to go. Looks like I'll be turning the heat on in the greenhouse a little earlier this year.
