| I've found a few more interesting things in the woods behind the house. Used to be gardens back there, so they might be specimens, natives, or bird planted. Any help is appreciated.
I think this is in the Cornus family. Some kind of dogwood? All the leaves back here are covered with this black stuff. I believe it's from the oaks above them. The red berries are almost translucent, not like Cornus florida.
Hearts a burstin? This is a vine-like thing. It runs nearly 20'. The vine is over 2" in diameter at the base.
Is this Calycanthus floridus? I found a seed pod on the ground which I can identify. Not sure which plant it belongs to. I'd like to take hardwood cuttings this fall. Never seen or smelled a bloom. The city cuts these back each spring just as they would be blooming.
Thanks in advance. And those metal pots in the corner of the one picture, they're enameled pots, but the bottoms are rusted out. Might go back and get them to plant herbs in by the kitchen door next spring. |
