What is this wildflower (in NYC city cultivated garden plot)

Figure is must be a very well known variety - anyone can tell me what it is?

Looks like a cosmos.

I agree that it is a cosmos. In our area/zone it is an annual that can reseed. I grow these plants from seed in early spring..Different varieties are from 18" to 3' tall.Someone possibly had sowed the seed or had a plant in the garden previously. Or a bird could have 'deposited' the seed.

Here is one in a deep golden yellow that I grew from a free pack of seeds.

To clarify - The leaves in the background of my photo are leaves from my strawberry plants. When I took the photo I didn't realize that they would be in the picture. I didn't want anyone to be confused when they saw these leaves. The plant of the cosmos is light and airy looking.
