| As I sit outside on this gorgeous day, I am amazed at how many of my plants still look good, even in early November. The stachys, heuchera Plum Pudding, dianthus, and nepeta all look lush and lovely, even not in bloom. My sedum Autumn Joy is still hanging on and giving me some blooms, while the Russian sage is still wispy and lovely.
Even in the veggie garden, there is still life and color. The kale is still going strong, as well as the chard. The strawberry plants still look good, even if they are done for the season. The sage and oregano and chives still look great.
Of course, I would love to have more bulbs so I would have more blooms early in the season, but right now, I am thankful for foliage plants. |

It is indeed a wonderful long fall this year, isn't it! We had a few days of cold, then the flooding - just enough rain and cool weather to get us into good fall color here for the first time since I've lived here. The trees are spectacular!

Yes and the weather just screems, "Come outside and garden!!" It has been so beautiful this past week I could hardly believe I was in Texas. The roses are almost all in bloom, very rare this time of year. The mums of course are lovely and the turks caps are still going full bore. My little patch of blue mist flower is feeding a multitude of butterflies. Some of my hydrangeas put on a little fall flush of pink blooms and the oak leaf hydrangeas' leaves are brilliant red. Beautiful. Here in the country it was exceptionally peaceful today, with no mowers or blowers going. It was the perfect day to spend a little while with a cup of coffee and my little 2yo grandson on the front porch swing reading Fox in Socks. Loved it, loved it. What a wonderful world! Cheryl

Up here in Illinois, we had a very cold October, and even September, so this weekend has been a very special treat for us. Normally, November is cold and nasty - this is more like what September and October are supposed to be like!

We are finally having perfect fall weather here too. The petunias look as good as they did in early summer, maybe better. I still have dark red snaps blooming, one perennial salvia, and two fall irises. I have been cleaning some beds and the vegetable gardens. I hope the weather lasts. According to predictions, this week will be super for us.

We're drowning up here, rain, rain, and more rain. It makes it very hard to do the fall cleanup. I'm not complaining though our forests really need it after one of the driest years on record. At least we don't have to shovel it :o). Annette

After an unusually wet October we're finally seeing some lovely fall days. Lots of blooms in the yard. The Mexican flame vine on the privacy fence looks better than it did all summer. I'm guessing those October rains were just what it needed. Firespike, pineapple sage, plumbago, cupheas, pentas, lantana, Spanish tarragon, cosmos, a few purple coneflowers, cat whiskers, SW clematis, and Country Girl chrysanthemum (thanks to whoever turned me on to that) ... all still in bloom. Planted a few pansies, violas, and snaps for the winter. Something has been eating the chard and it's not me. :( Starting to harvest arugula and Red Sails lettuce. Cheryl, one of my hydrangeas put out a couple blooms recently. Nice surprise this time of year!

Very wet here too but mild. Feverfew still going strong and so are the weeds. :) Libby

Very mild here. Got out Sat. and Sun. to chop leaves and get them onto the beds. All the leaves are down, nothing left blooming - that's OK. Time to dream and plan. Lots more leaves to chop as I lost last weekend to the flu. A little more grass to cut before the snow. My truck actually fits into the garage!!!!! Yea. Nancy.
