Ginger is so easy. This would probably be a hedychium ginger, if it was to plant outside. I just grow it in relatively moist but well drained soil. The soil mine likes best is very very nice, lots of compost mixed in, and raised above the clay. I mulch very well, and because it grows along the driveway which is slightly slanted in the direction of the ginger plants, they get all the run off and love it (but they don't like sitting in wet, soggy and cold soil). I grow a wide variety of the hedychium and they all like it here in full sun but will take morning sun and afternoon shade or vice-versa. They don't like it for extended periods in really really hot weather but can manage it. They love it at 85, humid and steamy! Mine bloom from June - November.

Over the years i have had many ginger plants,mostly brought back from hawaii by friends,no matter how or where i planted those things they never grew for me.;I don't know why,because as all my friends say,"You can grow anything"! But with that plant i found out that wasn't true.We had even bought a couple at our county fair,those wouldn't grow either.
