clay or wood for outdoor veggie garden markers

Hi Everyone!

I'm normally over at the exchange and gardening forums, but this year I would like to add a little extra to the gardens.

First off, I would like to make little veggie markers ..... decoupage some vintage seed packet images

- but would modeling clay, Fimo, or wood be recommened?

Then, what would I use to seal them with to protect them against the elements?

Colleen, I've read that Marine Varnish is best to use for outdoor decoupage...after all, it's used on boats out in all types weather. On a porch I've used Acrylic Matte Medium to decoupage on wood furniture and trays, but not sure it would hold up if exposed completely to weather (particularly our GA sun or your Zone 3...smile).

plaster of paris, wood, slate, plexiglass, Fimo, sculptey, and any 'curing' modeling clay will work...

and I totally agree that Marine Varnish, or dipping in one of those '50 coats' pourable urethane coatings are the most durable.
