| I am an artist and art professor living in Dallas TX and I�m looking for an environmentally sustainable source of wood to use for carving. I specialize in carved cooking utensils and am having trouble finding a source of fruitwoods. The types of fruit tree woods I�m looking for include cherry, apple, peach, apricot, and pear. The ideal sizes could range from 3 to 4 inches in diameter and up. Firewood grade and downed branches would work, green wood is preferred, but I would be willing to use any reasonable sized scraps you have.

Ah... I have been to Dallas and I perfectly understand. Unfortunately, how could I transport all this unwanted wood from here to you? I am in Johnson City TN. If you are limited to the rose family trees like you mentioned, it would be trickier, but chokecherry wood is practically the same as cherry, isn't it? Next time when I have some, I can return to this thread, let you know and save it just in case some kindred spirit will be eventually driving from here to there and willing to take it to you? Probably doesn't make any sense.
Right now I have some beech chunks sitting in my garage with no definite purpose, extremely dry and hard. |
