Materials to make you own molds???

I was wondering if I could use the clear GE Silicone II Sealant to make a mold. Has anyone tried this and if so, I would love to know how it turned out!

Here are my thoughts:

I have an object I would like to make a lot of...I've done plaster crafts and made molds with the liquid latex rubber for my own molds. But, I was thinking that maybe I could use the GE Silicone II Sealant for the mold material. I've seen molds made of "silicone" for candles but I'm not sure if it is the same material as the GE Silicone II. Note: I don't do candles! I do mosiacs and want to make some embellishments for my pieces. And, maybe some in hypertufa also.

Anyone know what I could use on the original object as a mold release in order to pull the object from the mold when the Silicone II has cured?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there: I think it might be very expensive to use the silicon although it would certainly work if you could keep it free of bubbles.I don't know about chemical reactions. There are a number of mold release products on the market but some homemade ones are Pam and talcum powder. Vaseline applied very thinly works too.-Sandy

clinda62...I have used Murphy's Oil soap for a mold release and it works well for me...I never thought of the silicone sealant before...let me know if it works for you, please!...Liz

spray your object with pam and wipe off excess. Thin G.E. silicone with charcoal lighter fluid or napha and brush on mold, let dry and apply another coat after 2 or 3 coats you can apply it straight from the tube and spread with fingers (latex gloves) and let dry for a few days and peel off.
