lola_the only thing I can think of at the moment were the leaves dipped in gold.I have one of those.I'm not sure about anything else that can be used......Lillie

Was it some kind of stiffener ? Were they real leaves
or silk ? Sorry I couldn't be of more help ~ I don't remember them at all -- but it does sound interesting !

they can be dipped in polyurethane- but it's smelly, tedious, and takes forever- and they're not terribly durable unless you dip them three or four times.

and looked like silver or gold.
And I don"t think it was resin,maybee some kind of liquid metal was used.
I Wanted to use them for birdhouses
and other garden stuff.

those silver and gold leaves are really dipped in silver and gold- actually, I think they're dipped in a 'priming' solution, and then electroplated.

but keep your eye open at yard sales- what was once a fad is now a '3 for a buck' item.
