| i just love painting rocks! been doing it for a couople of years now. if the rocks are muddy i wash them off, but when i get them from beside the lake, they are clean already. first i spray them with a flat black (walmart brand, $.98) and use chalk to make my sketches. then i use regular delta, or apple barrel or whatever brand acrylic paints. some need a few coats, others cover better. also smooth or porus rocks accept paint at different intensities too. (the smoother the easier, i find) the chalk lines easily erase with a bit of water on a rag, and then i spray seal it 2X with either a mat or glossy. i use the books by lin welford, painting flowers on rocks, painting animals on rocks etc. they are an excellent guide, i think. my favoties are the flowers, pansies, tulips, daffodil, and primrose, and animals, cats, racoons, turtles and bugs. oh , and pointsetta for christmas. i like to do huge ones that look like a potted plant. good luck, it is alot of fun. (and so cheap too, bottles, and jars and cans are fun too!) (oh, and driftwood santas) |
