Not sure how big the pine cones are- but from the ones that I have messed with (lots of big pine trees in my yard), I would wonder if you had to saw them at all, but if taking a sharp clipper type tool would not be best to grab and break the stem?

hi carletta i used a coping saw to saw lots of different cones. just slip it between the petals and cut the trunk like part. limber pine cones look just like flowers. sandy

My hubby and I did some work with pine cones. If they are very large or aged they can really be difficult to saw. We use a band saw with a fine blade. Be really careful or you can lose a finger in a hurry! The bottom of the cone sawed off forms a beautiful rozette flower. We have tried some "nippers" or large sissors but they are difficult to cut them with also. Good Luck !
