how do allium seed heads hold up?

I'm spray painting everything gold for Christmas - poppy seed heads, pine cones, hydrangeas - and I realized I should have saved my christophii alliums and given them a try. They are more delicate than the others but they would make great starbursts. Has anyone used them?

I've had good luck preserving Allium heads after thoroughly drying (just stand in a vase with NO water or hang upside down), then spraying lightly with cheap hairspray, letting dry then adding another coat or two. I would think spraypaint would do just as well. Good luck. josh
