Moss, Ferns & Cryptogams

purchased dormant ferns

I found a bunch of ferns for sale at Lowe's this past week. Nursery grown, from Botanical Wonders. There were small packets of rhizomes in peatmoss for about 8 different species and I bought a selection.

So what is the best way to store/plant them? I was thinking of keeping them in the packets for about 2 months, when it will be warming up. I might need to add a little moisture in the meantime.

Would evergreen species such as Christmas fern need different handling?

If the ground is not frozen you should plant them with the buds (fiddleheads) pointing up. Otherwise store them in the refrigerator.
