OK to plant a Giant Chain Fern in afternoon sun?

The Giant Chain Fern (Woodwardia fimbriata) has become my favorite fern and I would like to plant one on the west side of my house where it would be in sun from about 12 o'clock on. Everything I've read says they like shade. I have several in containers that are doing very well (in shade/partial shade). I know that Western Sword Ferns would do fine on the west side location and will plant those if necessary.

Am I asking for trouble? I'm located near the coast in Northern CA. ~ Thanks!

Hey, Steve.
That's my favorite fern, as well.
In general, they would prefer dappled or mosaic sunlight throughout the day.
On the coast, however, you might have a micro-climate that allows for an exception.

I'd place one in a container in that intended location, just to see how it fares.

I've noticed that ferns in full sun don't grow as large as those in shadier areas.
