I've tried to grow moss in my shady yard, every kind and nothing works. I know it clumps more than spreads. It needs lots of morning sun and tons of water which is a very hard combination. I have a friend that has it growing naturally between her bricks but she gets full sun till noon each day (Texas heat also) and is included with a sprinkler system. You will need lots of moss for instant results. You might want to look for Corsican mint (very very tiny leaves) or the thyme family for faster results. It will smell good too. Good Luck.

I read where Irish Moss is sometimes called Scotch Moss. BUT I bought both under their respective labels and the Scotch moss was a lot lighter in color. The Irish moss was forest green. I bought these at Home depot. Today I received some plants of Irish moss from Springhill, and it is the same color As my Scotch moss? What is going on? Jim

Maddigger, Irish and Scotch moss are two common names for the same plant (Sagina Subulata). However, just like petunias come in different colours, so too are there various varieties of Sagina Subulata.
