The Moss Man who grows Moss between the new pave stones for the rich and famous - to give them that 100 year old feel????? - uses nothing but plain old milk. Zoops it in the blender, pours the glop in the cracks and mists until they dig in.
Buttermilk and yogurt have more fat.
Anyway he makes his living at it.

One thing that I've learned about growing moss is that you have to get moss already growing on rocks to be successful with "transplanting" to rock like structures such as the hypertufa items. Moss growing on the ground doesn't do well on pots and such but can be moved to between paving stones and other soil areas. Hope this helps.
