Dryopteris erytrosora: ok to cut back foliage?

Hello there

my D. erytrosora made it through the winter almost as evergreen (planted to years ago). Now some smallish bulbs around it are batteling with the fern leaves. And I have read that it is usually wintergreen and has to grow new fronds?/ leaves anyway. Do you think it is okay to cut back the healthy looking foliage in order to give the bulbs a break? The soil is quite rich with natural leaf mulch, moist and with lots of worms.

Well, thanks, cheers, Lin
