Michigan Moss Help

Posted by grancru z5 MI (My Page) on

Is anyone growing moss in Michigan? I am just getting started and would like to design a moss garden and need some advise on soil preporation, shade or sun requirements and Z5 hardy mosses.

Any help is appreciated.

RE: Michigan Moss Help

Can't be a lot of help here but this moss grows by itself on my property in Kalamazoo. It seems to prefer rocks/pebbles but I also have some in my "lawn" although I am not sure if it is the same kind shown here. This moss is in full shade transplanted between flagstones from a pebble path in full shade. I would recommend taking a walk in the woods and digging some up, just be sure to transplant it in the same conditions you found it in...if it is growing on rock then transplant it on rocks/pebbles, if it is growing in dirt etc.
