| I'll start by saying I know virtually nothing about lichens.
This is one of my favorite things in my garden, and I didn't plant it. It's growing throughout my path, and has been increasing for several years. I call it a lichen, but for all I know, it's not. Today I Googled "fan shaped lichen" and the name above is what I came up with. It does look very similar. Can anyone help me identify this? Thanks very much! |
Here is a link that might be useful: lichen?

| Hadn't heard of that one before, but I believe yours is Marchantia polymorpha. It is fairly common and is considered a weed in plant nurseries. It likes a little fertilizer if you want it to encourage it. The little cup-shaped structures are called gemmae cups and contain fragments called gemmae that can produce new plants. |

| Thanks - I'd never heard of those, but that's definitely what I have based on some pictures I just found online. It beats weeds or grass between the flagstones, so maybe I'll take your advice and fertilize it. Thanks again! |
