Is This a Good Time To Plant Ferns in NW Georgia)?

Hi,

I planted a fern/hosta bed last spring (2007)...two days before the Easter freeze. I had to cover everything with tarps and whatever I could find in order to save them, but all my plants survived and did very well, especially considering the problems with the drought we had last summer...still having to some extent, but getting better.

My question: is now a good time to plant ferns in order to have them established before the possible continuation of a summer drought this year?

What if we have another freeze this spring? Will I need to cover them or will they be okay without going to all the trouble of that?

Thanks!

Beverly
