Do I absolutely need to mount my Staghorn fern on a wooden slab, or can I keep it in it's glazed pot with a peatmoss medium?

You do not absolutely need to mount it.

Thank you, it seems to be doing great.

I have a question about the staghorn fern. I received one as a gift and it is mounted on a piece of wood. I don't have anywhere to hang it so would like to move it to a pot or something similar (not a basket as I have nowhere to hang that either). Any suggestions how I should do this? Everything I can find is about mounting it on wood, trees, etc.

I have had luck using a clay orchid pot. When dividing mounted ones I ended up with one small one left and no plaque, so I put it in a clay orchid pot. I tilted the pup about 45degrees packing sphagnum under. To water I would plunge the pot in a bucket of water once a week like I treat my plaqued ones.

Thanks for the tips. I got an orchid pot and, after removing the fern from the mount, put the plant in with wet moss. Looks to be doing well so far.
