transplanting reindeer moss?

I have been lucky to come into several feet of reindeer moss. The lichen is a bit dry. Whey I try to push it into the earth, it breaks.

Has anybody had any luck transplanting this stuff? I hesitate to put it in the blender and destroy it.

Apologies if this has been addressed already. I have not been able to find anything suitable on it.
