Hi Shadey, the plant "Irish Moss" (Sagina subulata) could probably grow where the weeds are growing right now...

"Irish Moss" isn't really a moss though...the people who make up plant names in the nursery industry just call it that, probably because "Irish Moss" sounds so poetic. It's really a regular plant in the same family as carnations.

Other ideas...I've been reading on the net about people making "asphalt gardens". There is a whole method for making raised garden beds over asphalt areas...I think they use cinderblocks to make the walls of the beds, and then build up layers of soil and compost over cardboard, hay, sand, wood chips and other stuff.

I'm thinking of trying this method for our concrete patio area.
