ostrich fern in pot for patio?

I just ordered 7 tennessee ostrich fern roots from ebay today. I'd like to put them in one or two pots - an 18" and a 12". I'm wondering if they will be okay in these pots for one summer, then i will put them in the ground in the fall. I want the pots to appear full and the fronds to support each other - so closely packed together. I'm in northern michigan. Is this realistic?

I think you have a fine idea there. Should work fine. Don't let them go dry in the pots
