These ferns would not like hot afternoon sun.

Also, they are not a fern to choose if you want something to look at in winter, as they die back completely.

I love the color it has. Is there a fern or fern like plant with color that is a evergreen?

I have several Japanese Painted Ferns around a small Japanese Maple that get sun in the afternoon and they are thriving. The amount of sun depends on the time of the year, but I think it ranges from 3 to 5 hours. I do make sure the maple is well watered, so this helps the ferns too.
