Question about using paraffin wax to seal Mushroom plugs.

I plan on buying a few hundred Shiitake plugs and I know that I need to seal them with wax. All the websites I have seen suggest using cheese wax, but could I use paraffin wax instead of the cheese wax? The reason I ask is the cheese wax is quite expensive when compared to the paraffin wax. I am on a fixed income and have to pinch pennies.

I use cheesewax as recommended. I think paraffin wax isn't recommended because it's derived from petroleum. Not something you want to have in/near your food.

Hey Mike, thanks for your reply. The type of paraffin wax that I am considering using is food grade. I would never want to use something that is not safe. This the kind of wax that a lot of people use when making candy at the holidays.

While writing this I thought about beeswax. I know it would be safe, and should do the job. And just got me to thinking, well what is cheesewax made of? I am going to check it out.
