Without a picture it is hard to say, but it doesn't sound like a fern! If the bag was labeled for a specific type of fern, there should not be anything but that in there.

i've got the same package, about to set them out to see what happens- tenn garden. I'll let you know how it goes!

UPDATE: It is official two are like the picture and the other two are do not lookm like the picture(but they both look like each other).

This year the large Mart stores offered several bagged ferns including TN ostrich, Cinnamon fern and Christmas fern. You may have gotten christmas fern polystichum acrostichoides in your bag. Google it and check the pictures after you let it grow for a few weeks. I bought lots of the bagged roots, myself, but it is too early for me to tell if they are true to their names on the package. I am in upstate, ny zone 5. Ferns just started to grow here last week. Good luck, and enjoy.
