FoxTail Fern

Hi,

I live in Katy(30 miles west of Houston), TX. I had these couple of FoxTail Fern in my flower beds last year when we got the yard landscaped. They were lush green and nice till the frost of the last winter here in TX.

Now, most of them are turning Brown and not as green and bushy as before. I cut some of them up when they turn brown like twigs. And when i was preparing the soil of my flower bed last week i was amazed to see the thivk, bulby roots of these fern spreading pretty much throught my flower bed.

I don't know what to do now. Should i take them out as i have some nice Hybrid Tea Roses in the flower bed and i don't want the roots from these fern to take up all the nutrients and block the root growth for the roses.

Also, any idea why they might be turning brown?

The area receives nice morning sun as well as some afternoon sun too.

Here are the pictures

You can see how some of the stems are brown and looks like a bare twig.
