Size of pot for mother fern

I got a mother fern in February. Now it has grown to twice its size and is making babies. I already repotted it once, and it looks as though it is getting too big for its pot again. The longest frond is about 12 inches long. I believe it is in an 8 inch pot. Is there a rule of thumb for potting this type of fern, ie some sort of ratio for the pot width versus the fern's size? I know I will have to repot soon, and I would rather have a pot that is too big than have to repot again soon. What size should I get?

Several ferns go by the name "mother fern"; which one do you have?

I'm not sure. When I bought it, the tag simply said "fern". I do know it has been making babies for a while now, and it took me a while of searching online to figure out that it is in fact a mother fern (I'm pretty sure). If I can get a picture, I'll put up the link.
