Its Latin name is (ahem) Phallus Impudicus.

Also known as a stinkhorn.

Don't ever wish to have these in your yard--they smell like a dead animal, attract flies, and ooze black gunk. An infestation can take away all your enjoyment of your outdoor space. Horrible horrible things. An ongoing battle in my yard, and I live in the desert, believe it or not! They are SO not cool.
