First Aid for Ferns?

donn_
13 years ago

I just received 45 one-quart ferns which don't look very healthy. They are 15 each of the following:

Thelypteris noveboracensis, New York Fern

Osmunda cinnamomea, Cinnamon Fern

Dennstaedtia punctilobula, Hayscented Fern

They were shipped from the grower with the foliage mashed down and covered with wet newspaper and tipper-tie plastic mesh netting. Here's what they looked like when I opened them:

{{gwi:601979}}

{{gwi:601982}}

The Hayscented and NY ferns fared the worst. Their foliage is largely broken, sometimes partially and some completely off.

The Cinnamons aren't as bad, because their stipes are fat and tough.

What are your suggestions for first aid for these poor travelers?

Thanks in advance.
