Hi, I'm hoping someone will help me with a question. I planted a cinnamon fern in my garden a couple of days ago, and the next day after it was planted, about half of its fiddleheads were knocked off, just laying on the ground next to the plant (they had just started emerging, not unfurled at all). Should I be blaming squirrels? Is this a common occurence? Do these ferns generally need protection in the Spring when they are just emerging?
