Maidenhair Ferns coming back from winter

Last spring I bought four maidenhair ferns. Two Fragrans maidenhairs and two southern maidenhairs. They all performed very well last summer growing in containers. Come winter I decided to err on the side of caution and I put them in my unheated garage in their containers for the winter. I monitored the temps and the lowest it got was 26 deg. The pots were not watered all winter. Last month once the low's were regularly above freezing I placed them outside and have kept them well watered. My other ferns (christmas and ostrich) that are in the ground have all started to come up, but still nothing from the maidenhairs. Are they dead, or are they just slow to unfurl? Help! I don't want to buy new ones if I don't have to.
