Companion for small Dicksonia Antartica in a pot

I recently purchased a tiny 'Dicksonia Antartica' which I plan to put outside in a pot for the summer. I realize this is an extremely slow growing plant and I can only hope I'll live long enough for it to grow as tall as me!

Anyway, I plan to put it outside in a pot, but I would like to put something else in the pot too, as the tree isn't much to look at. I'll bring it inside for the winter. Any suggestions for a companion plant of any sort that won't overwhelm my little tree fern? Also, any tips on what type of potting soil would be the best? Thanks.
