I'm in zone 6a(southern Ontario, CANADA) but up here Ostrich Ferns like a bit of sun. They grow mostly in wet lowland areas with lots of shade or on the forest edge with dappled sun.

Your other smaller ferns will come along as the sun is higher in the sky. Just give them lots of water to kick start them. The first year you transplant a fern they teeter between life and death if the circumstances aren't just right. I find that watering a new fern for the first year, about every other day really helps them along and of course getting the spot they are in "just right" helps too. They should be fine beside your house though. They are protected from wind and once we get more into summer they will get a bit more sun that they might be wanting too.

Other ferns are not so hardy and LOVE deep shade so just do a search on the net when you add new varieties.
