I had a large rabbit's foot fern that I split apart and
repotted into two new planter. I don't think just planting
the "furry foot" would produce a new plant as you need to
get the rhizome underneath the soil.

This capability allows the parent plant to propagate vegetatively (asexually) and also enables a plant to perennate (survive an annual unfavourable season) underground.
