Well I'm not in Ohio, but mine has been in action for months. However, some others are just showing signs of life now. Ferns are funny that way; I have sometimes discarded them only to have them grow when out of the dirt.

All of my "hardy" ferns stayed evergreen even under the snow through the relatively mild winter. Then in the spring we had a freezing rain/ice storm after a warm spell and they all appeared dead. Now I have a few new tiny leaves coming up on some of them...other's appear to be goners. They were all planted just last year from 4" pots so weren't that large or established to begin with.

Some of my ferns have been very sluggish this spring, too. Like many, we had a nasty freeze around Easter. The lady ferns, christmas ferns, ostrich and cinnamon ferns all emerged just fine. But the japanese painted and autumn ferns have been VERY slow. Some of them are showing tiny bits of growth; others, still nothing. I guess I'll give them all plenty of time to see what happens.
