Dryopteris erythrosora 'Brilliance' - is it slow to emerge?

My ostrich and Japanese painted ferns are well on their way already. But I installed five Autumn Brilliance ferns last year and see one tiny frond emerging on one (like, 1/2"!), and cannot see anything on the others yet. Is it this slow to show or have I lost the ferns?
