Mounting Staghorn

Posted by vanderson NC (My Page) on

I got my staghorn yesterday in the mail and it is in a 4" plastic hanging basket(pot). I would like to mount it in a wire basket(like a flat wire basket). Do you think Wal-Mart, Lowes or Home Depot has something like that? Also can anyone give me advice on how to mount it to a wire basket? I bought some Spagnam Moss at home depot the other day. Thanks for your help.

RE: Mounting Staghorn

Well, Most big box garden centers have various baskets you can fill with moss and plant your stag in the middle of. I suggest you find a real nursery where the folks know about plants. They are likely to have what you're looking for. Just get some kind of basket, fill it with sphagnum moss and stick the stag in the middle of the top. Ther roots will grow to the outside and pup. Keep it outdoors and water it when it gets dry. Protect it from frost. Give it about 30 - 50% shade.
