Northern maidenhair fern, Adiantum pedatum, is hardy in your area. I'm sure they can grow as houseplants, but they do best outside. If you call around, you should be able to buy them from a local nursery. They would be available online as well, though.

I found a maidenhair fern at a place people like to refer to as a box store. They had a good selection. It was cheap enough,so it is no great loss if it is not as hardy as the label claimed. I went to a reputable mail order for my 'Silver Falls' painted fern. Caveat Emptor.

The maidenhair fern you see in floral arrangements is not the same as our native Adiantum pedatum (just to confuse us all, also known as maidenhair fern). One of my old house plant books refers to the "floral" kind as Adiantum cuneatum, and states it is hardy to 45-50 degrees, and is a greenhouse plant.
