How to preserve a fern spore print?

This past weekend I found some ferns that were ready to drop their spores, and I made this spore print on a sheet of paper.

I just laid a frond on the paper, and waited several hours.

I would love to do this again and frame it, but I don't know how to fix the spores onto the paper. The big obstacle is that the spores are very fine, and do not stick to the paper at all like mushroom spores do. I thought about laying a frond on the sticky side of contact paper, but the frond will surely get stuck.

The only idea I have is to spray some kind of clear fixative onto the print. I would have to do it from several feet above, so the spores don't get blown around, or maybe spray the fix horizontally into the air over the paper, so it kind of drifts down onto the print without disturbing the spore pattern.

Has anyone done something similar? Any suggestions?

Alex
