Ostridge fern, How long until it gets big?

| Hello,
I'm working on creating/re-doing a shade garden in my side yard. I have no experience with ferns. I've bought 1 ostridge fern and 2 jumbo ostridge ferns. How long does it take them to get tall and spread? How much growth can I expect this year? I haven't put them in the ground yet, I want to make sure I give them enough room to fill out, but in the mean time the area might look a little sparse. Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

| I grow jumbo ostrich fern "the king" in albany, ny. They should reach close to full size next season. Pamper them with water this year, probably once a week. They may send out a runner for a new fern next season. You may want to mulch them with straw or leaves the first season. They will be fine and you will have several to transplant or give away after 4 or five years. |
