These two are very neat ferns that were already planted in my garden when I moved here. I'd like to know what they are so perhaps one of you can ID them? I hope the photos are adequate.

What would help is a good photo of the back of the fronds with the spore cases.

I'm pretty sure your "mapley things" are Japanese anenomes. They are invasive but easy to pull up. They also get lots of very pretty rose pink flowers starting in late August to October so they are worthwhile.

The first fern is a Polystichum setiferum īBevisī.
