Lot's of questions there! There are certainly ferns that can take some sun, but most are better in at least part shade, even total shade. I won't take the risk of recommending any, as I am in such a different zone. It might help to take a photo to ID your local wild fern, or perhaps you have a local agricultural office that could tell you. You're probably best off to get a fern book from the library or look around the internet for fern care. It's hard to write an off-the-cuff essay on the subject here. But they're not complicated, if you stay within the guidelines of part shade, reasonable moisture, plant in early spring or fall, and cut back old fronds if they bother you.

"under pool deck". I am wondering if you will have clorine/chemical issues, trying to grow anything under a pool deck.

Nicucol: As Karin says, ferns are pretty easy to cultivate. They have very uncomplicated needs. A bit of shade, a bit of water, and, most importantly,good compost-y soil with lots of decayed leaves. Ferns didn't get to be the oldest form of plant life on our earth by being fussy. If you want to get started on an life-long love affair, check out the available stock at your local nursery rather than taking a plant from the wild. Retailers usually carry ferns that are suited to local climates, and there is a great deal of information available on the internet specific to any fern you want to investigate. However, the chlorine does indeed require consideration.
