I think they are putting up fertile fronds now. Usually about this time of the year, when it starts getting hot the other fronds die back to the ground, and will return either later this fall or next spring.

Autumnmoon , Thanks for getting back to me...yes , it seems a couple of my different grape ferns are putting up either new fronds or ones that will be the fertile fronds.
I thought I only had a couple of different types of ferns in my woodland area
( besides the grape ferns ) ...most seemed to look alike...but now that I am looking closer and the sori are forming, I am amazed that there are many more types of different ferns in my little area than I originally thought I had...a lot of fun, but sometimes they drive me buggy trying to make sure I identify them correctly...so many are similar with only small differences.....will post this on the net and also send this to you...hope you get a chance to read it....thanks Tom in N.W.
