Boston Fern: Dry climate, self watering pot

I live in an semi-arid climate and there's nothing I can do to get humidity up in the summer (in the winter I can get decent humidity and my tropical plants love it). I decided to try my fluffy ruffle in a self watering pot and it seems to be doing well but I pruned it way back when I repotted and I'm not getting much growth. I've also seen a few brown ends. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a happier tropical fern in a dry area? (FWIW I have a Kimberly Queen fern in a regular pot and it couldn't be happier!)
