Can my fern be saved?

I have a hugh Rabbit Foot Fern that I've grown for years. It shares the sunporch with many orchids. I have just discovered that it has scale. I have moved it outside to hang under a tree. My question is can it be saved by spraying it with something? I have Orthene WP that I've used on my orchids. Can this be used on a RF Fern? Or will I have to throw it out? I hate to loose it, because it was given to me by my Father.

If I'm not mistaken, scale is those little brown lumps along the stem, right? If so, just scratch them off with your fingernail or with a garden tool.
